FIFA Launches Digital Collectibles Collection

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the launch of a new collection of digital collectibles in collaboration with technology company Modex. The collection, called FIFA+ Collect, will be available on the Polygon blockchain platform.

The first drop of 100 digital collectibles will be released on December 15. These items will be "dual digital collectibles" that give the opportunity to win real football-related items, as well as tickets to the final of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

During the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off today in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, an additional 900 digital collectibles will be released. These will feature iconic moments from the tournament.

FIFA previously used the Algorand blockchain platform to release its NFTs. However, in this case, it has decided to switch to Polygon. This decision is expected to make the collection more accessible to a wider audience.

FIFA has said that it plans to release new digital collectibles in the future. These NFTs will offer football fans new and innovative ways to engage with the sport.

As noted on FIFA's website, the organization is aiming to make digital collectibles accessible to all football fans. It believes that this will allow fans to connect with the game in a deeper way and "democratize the ability" to own a piece of the FIFA World Cup.

In addition to the FIFA World Cup, FIFA+ Collect also offers digital collectibles that commemorate memorable moments in the history of the FIFA Women's World Cup.

A secondary marketplace for trading FIFA+ Collect digital collectibles will be opened in the near future.

This launch is the latest sign of the growing popularity of digital collectibles in the sports world. Other major sports organizations, such as the National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB), have also launched or announced plans to launch their own digital collectibles collections.
