Tether (USDT)
Tether (USDT) is a cryptocurrency token that is pegged to the value of the US dollar. It was created to allow for quick and easy transfer of fiat currency into a cryptocurrency that could be used on exchanges that did not support fiat currency trading.
Tether is issued by the Tether Limited company, which claims that every USDT token is backed by a corresponding US dollar in their reserves. This means that for every USDT token in circulation, there should be an equivalent amount of actual US dollars held by Tether Limited.
Tether has been controversial in the cryptocurrency community, with some questioning the legitimacy of Tether Limited's claims to actually have enough reserves to back all USDT tokens in circulation. Despite this, USDT remains one of the most popular stablecoins, used by traders and investors to maintain a stable value amidst the volatility of other cryptocurrencies.
